Mock Strawberry

Many of you have undoubtedly encountered this strange looking "strawberry" growing in lawns and other disturbed areas. These are not strawberries. They belong to a plant called Duchesnea indica or the mock strawberry. There is some molecular evidence that suggests this species is a better fit for the genus Potentilla. Regardless, it has been following humans around the globe and now grows far outside of its native range of southern Asia.
